What is access authority?

Access authority means an organisation decides who can go where, puts mechanical keys and electronic credentials under the same decision, applies it across its connected systems, and can prove it at any time.

Why the keys matter

A PIAM covers people and electronic access across access control systems. Access authority puts mechanical keys under the same decision. In most organisations many doors still open with a key, so a decision that stops at the card leaves part of every building outside it.

Who holds it

The organisation holds the authority. portierX applies it and keeps the record.

How portierX does it

You decide who can go where. We call that access authority. portierX applies the decision in the connected access control systems, issues keys against it, and keeps every step on record.

Common questions about access authority

Is portierX a PIAM?

Yes, and more. portierX manages people’s access across electronic access control systems, which is what PIAM means, and puts mechanical keys under the same decision. The decision stays with the organisation. We call that access authority.

Does access authority replace access control?

No. Access control systems open the doors. Access authority is the decision on who can go where, applied in those systems and to the mechanical keys.
